Two Man United stars have pulled out of international duty following injury.
Injuries has been the story of Manchester United’s season. There is absolutely no getting away from that fact. Erik ten Hag’s squad has been seriously hampered on that front, though unlike Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur, we’re not allowed to use it as an excuse apparently…
This weekend was a familiar sight. Two further players went down with problems, as the Red Devils continued their treatment table woes.
First up, Christian Eriksen suffered an apparent knee problem. The Dane went off in the first half, with Mason Mount coming on in his place. Then, in the second 45, Rasmus Hojlund was holding his hamstring. He’d succumb to that injury shortly after.
The extent of their respective problems wasn’t known at the time. However, the Daily Mail have provided some sort of an update, as the United duo pull out of international duty after their injuries. The Reds are now sweating on their fitness as a result.
I’m genuinely unsure how to feel about this news. At first I was happy that both Eriksen and Hojlund would not be heading away with Denmark, though then I thought that the injuries must be somewhat serious if it’s going to keep them out for at least a fortnight…
Yes, he has his flaws, but Eriksen has been starting games with regularity over the last few weeks. He’s a key cog in Ten Hag’s side and it now gives the gaffer another selection headache in midfield.
Hojlund’s absence would leave United super light up front. Anthony Martial would be the only recognised striker at the club. The Frenchman has blown hot and cold over the last few years.
The worst-case scenario is that these are two longer-term injuries. Then, Ten Hag’s squad would be looking paper-thin…
