Anthony Martial may have been presented with one final opportunity to save his Man United career.
How do you solve a problem like Anthony Martial? For all his talents and god-given ability, the Frenchman continues to blow hot and cold.
Is it a stretch to say he has not improved since arriving at Old Trafford? After bursting on the scene with *that* goal against Liverpool, he’s yet to really kick on and make his mark within the sport.
Injuries have not helped, and neither has a consistent change in manager and position. Last season felt like a massive opportunity, particularly after a promising pre-season, though he could not stay fit.
We’ve barely seen him this term due to the signing of Rasmus Hojlund. Martial isn’t thought to be too happy at his current standing within the squad. I cannot blame him for being upset, though it’s his own fault at the end of the day. He’s had countless opportunities.
However, the 27-year-old United star may be about to be presented with one final chance to salvage his Reds career. He has Hojlund to thank for that.
The Dane picked up what appeared to be a hamstring injury at home to Luton Town this weekend, with the striker unable to continue. He’s since been withdrawn from international duty, hinting that the issue is going to keep him sidelined for at least the next fortnight. Likely longer.
Just when it looked like Martial’s time at United was done, he has one last shot at proving his worth. Now, there can be no excuses. He’s fit and very likely to be given his chance at leading the line against Everton next time out.

With United’s attack struggling, it’s Martial’s chance to showcase his talents and let everyone know that he’s still capable. In terms of his age, he’s at that stage in his career where he should be at the peak of his powers. Surely he can play well against a very average Everton side?
In terms of what Martial does well, he’s very good at linking up the play and keeping the ball moving. That could actually help this United side out loads, as that’s where they’ve been struggling. It has all been pretty static, particularly in the wide areas.
Give him a chance and Martial will score. He’s ice cold when through on goal. Again, that’s something which United have not been so great at this season. If you do not take your chances, you’re asking for games to be turned on their head.
Do I have any faith in Martial? If I’m honest, not really, but when you’ve got that much natural ability, you’ve always got a chance. In a needs-must situation, he needs to stand up and shine. Even if there is no way back for him at Old Trafford, surely he’d be keen on putting himself in the shop window and proving he’s still good enough to potential buyers?
