Diogo Dalot withdraws from Portugal international duty, citing ‘personal reasons’ for his absence.
Manchester United are now on a two-week hiatus due to the final international break of 2023. The Red Devils cannot cause us any further stress over the next fortnight, which is a good thing given the way we’re playing at the moment!
Jokes aside, this could be a time for some Reds players to find some confidence. Some of the lads within that dressing room have played infinitely better for their country, which will hopefully carry over to club-level upon their return.
However, one player will now not be heading off to partake in the upcoming international break; Diogo Dalot.
The official Manchester United website have confirmed that the 24-year-old player has withdrawn from Portugal international duty. He will no longer take part in their European qualifiers.
After talks with Portugal manager, Roberto Martinez, it has been agreed that Dalot was released for ‘personal reasons’. Joao Mario has been called up instead.
Dalot has been a Portugal regular for quite some time now, so I’m not quite sure what’s going on here. Either the right-back has some family stuff going on that needs his immediate attention, or there has been some sort of fallout. I’d imagine it’s more likely to be the former, given the fact that Dalot doesn’t strike me as a player who’d ever be a problem within any dressing room.
The defender has been a regular in the United side of late, playing at both right and left-back over the last few weeks. Perhaps him having the fortnight off could be a good thing in the long run, as the last thing this club needs is another injury.
Hopefully, all is well with Diogo and he’s back in action sooner rather than later.
