Man United will not sell Antony in the January transfer window, despite recent struggles.
I think it’s fair to say that Antony is not having the best second season at Manchester United. Off-field issues are seemingly distracting the attacker, while his on-field displays haven’t been anywhere near as fruitful as they were last term.
Antony is close to being labelled a one-trick pony due to his complete lack of a right foot. I have to be honest, it does make it infinitely more difficult, particularly as the defenders knows he’s always going to cut inside.
Recent rumours have suggested that Antony’s head could be on the chopping block. However, other media outlets dispelled those rumours quickly.
Those claims have since been backed up by Football Insider, who in their title, state that Ten Hag is ‘to block’ any potential January exit for the Brazilian.
It’s added that United are ‘not ready to give up’ on the struggling player, who does look a shadow of his former self at this moment in time. After spending massive money to bring Antony in, it does seem like the club are looking to prove that they were right to do so.
Ten Hag is said to be a ‘huge fan’ of the player he worked with so successfully at Ajax, with Antony looking to continue to develop and prove himself at one of the biggest clubs in the world.
The verdict
The talent is obviously there. I do feel that he’s being hampered by what’s happening off the field right now, as I genuinely believed United were a better side with him in it.
His work ethic rubbed off on the rest of his teammates, while he’d also do a job defensively. To put it simply, he knows the Ten Hag style inside-out and that was a huge benefit for the team on the whole.
Even if United were to look to move on from Antony, it’d be a summer deal rather tan a winter one.
