Man United will not let Jadon Sancho go cheaply in the January transfer window.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock recently, you’ll know that Erik ten Hag has endured a very public fallout with winger Jadon Sancho. It’s fair to say the pair haven’t really seen eye-to-eye over the last few months.
Since his very public social media outburst following being dropped from the squad back in September, we have not seen Sancho at all. Word on the street is that he’s training with the youth side, while eating packed lunches away from the rest of the squad… Talk about stepping your authority on the club.
Now, the latest in the ongoing saga comes from The Mirror. In all likelihood, United will have to cash in on Sancho as he’s just not playing at the moment and taking up space on the wage bill. However, the British red-top believe that United will not let the out-of-favour 23-year-old leave ‘on the cheap’ during the mid-season window.
Sancho has not been involved with the senior squad for ten weeks, though Ten Hag has decided that he will not be sold for a cut-price deal, after costing the club a massive £70m+ a couple of years ago.
In terms of asking price, United want ‘up to £50m’ for Sancho, though in our opinion, that seems like a massive ask. The Red Devils have been pretty bad when it comes to selling players over the last couple of years. Are we supposed to believe that’s about to suddenly change?
I get that Sancho’s best years are still technically ahead of him, but he has not been good for United, in terms of on-field performances and dressing room attitude. The club would do well to earn £20m to let him leave permanently – assume there’s a willing buyer out there.
As things stand, I can imagine a January loan move away for Sancho. If he plays well, a possible summer switch could be in the offing.
