AFC Bournemouth’s three-game unbeaten in the Premier League came to an end at Brentford. The run which had seen victories over Manchester City and Arsenal, with a draw against Aston Villa at Villa Park, meant the Cherries had taken 7 points from their last 3 games.
The Cherries were an early threat, but the first chance they had was ballooned over the crossbar by Marcos Senesi, but then Evanilson jumped on a mistake from the Brentford defence and with a great fake took the ball around the ‘keeper to slot the ball into an empty net, the Cherries go were 1-0 up.
The goal showed great anticipation. He knew the Brentford player was going to knock it back before the Brentford player knew it himself.
The lead didn’t last long when Wissa replied for Brentford and then it was half-time.
But the Cherries press didn’t stop there, a few minutes into the second half Bournemouth had a corner, and a brilliantly worked set piece saw Justin Kluivert smash one in from a few yards out to beat the Brentford keeper to make it 2-1, once again however, the Cherries lead didn’t last long before Damsgaard scored to make it 2 a piece at the Gtech, before Wissa scored again to make Brentford lead for the first time in the match. Both sides had chances to add to the scoresheet but that was how it remained when the referee Darren Bond blew for full-time.
After the game, AFC Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola told the Daily Echo…
“It’s a hard one for us because I’m quite happy with the performance really, I think we especially in the first half we were clearly the better team but it’s true that we couldn’t make the difference.
“You finish 1-1 [at half time] and probably the second half has had less rhythm.
“There have been a lot of things but it has been more stop and go, set plays. Probably a key moment is when we concede after the 2-1.
“But more or less the game has been what we expected, similar to the games Brentford has played here at home.
“The throw ins, the kickoff, you have to manage these situations and they punished us there.
“But I think our performance deserves much, much more today.”

Brentford are a awful team. As soon as they went ahead they’ve wasted as much time as possible.
Really poor from us today. Our away form is woeful.

Funny how we see things so differently . Two excellent teams that fought out a hard ,entertaining game ..we were unfortunate against a team that hasn’t lost at home .

They were jammy at the end there. The other way round and that probably goes in.
Travers dropped is a shocking decision. Subs are very bad atm. The core 15 that start all look good still for the most part.
Araujo limping slightly but absolutely no endeavour to get involved, track back, or even get in the way.

It was a brilliant game of football. End to end. Goals, chances and tackles. They came out on top, but if we had won, I don’t think they would have been disappointed either. A draw was probably fair, and we should’ve snatched that at the end, but for the crossbar.
Brentford are definitely a bogey team for us, and they are brilliant at home. So it was always going to be tough.

We knew there were going to be goals and so again that’s how it turned out.
Brentford are top of the home table, yes they have played lower in the table, but you still have to win them.
The good news from this game was Evanilson has now scored in his last three games and was involved in the sending off and penalty against Arsenal.
Brighton will be another tough game and we will be without Ryan Christie who will be a big loss.
The Brentford fans are certainly getting to see goals at home, 29 goals in six games.

Got what we deserved, not necessarily based on the balance of play but because of the unnecessary changes.
The Cook and Christie partnership is the heartbeat of the team, breaking that up to accommodate Adams after the best win in our history is nonsensical.
Kepa has looked like an accident waiting to happen all season, Travers earned himself the right to make the shirt his to lose, what exactly has he done to lose it? Put in one of the best-ever individual displays by a Bournemouth keeper and keep goal in one of the greatest wins in our history, that’s what. I’m actually quite angry for Travers, what on earth is the point in him being here? There is clearly nothing he can do to force his way into the team.
As much as Iraola deserved the recent praise he deserves criticism today, because he got that wrong and it cost us. – To join the conversation, click here.
