Julen Lopetegui oversaw one of the worst performances I have seen from West Ham United in quite some time on Saturday.
The 0-0 bore draw with Everton was a terrible advert for the Premier League, and Julen Lopetegui has received huge stick from the West Ham fans as a result.
Rightly so – we were horrendous, and it seems like we have regressed badly this season under the Spaniard’s stewardship.
Max Kilman was one of the few players who could leave the London Stadium with his head held high after the Everton match.
Surprisingly, the 27-year-old suggested after the final whistle that he and he teammates were unfortunate not to win the game.
Whilst I don’t agree with that, I do enjoy listening to Kilman talk. He speaks with real authority, and in my opinion, he should have been made the club captain back in the summer.
And something he said about one of his teammates has made Lopetegui look very silly indeed.
Max Kilman has just made Julen Lopetegui look clueless
The towering centre-back has been our best and most consistent performer this season.
It’s a shame that he hasn’t had much competition though!
There have been plenty of West Ham players who simply haven’t performed, whilst others haven’t been given enough chances to shine.
Danny Ings fits into the latter category, and Kilman raved about him after the Everton draw, as quoted by WHUFC.com:
The Hammers centre-back said, “Danny is a top, top player and we’ve seen throughout this season that he takes his opportunities when he gets them. Today’s another example of him coming on and having a big impact. I think next time, if he has another chance like that at the end, he’ll probably score.“
Whilst Ings hasn’t been great for us on the whole, I do feel like he deserves more chances than he’s getting under Lopetegui.
Since scoring the vital equaliser against Fulham back in September, he has been given just 57 minutes of Premier League football.
With Niclas Fullkrug out injured, that’s just bizarre isn’t it?
Michail Antonio has hardly been pulling up any trees either. Ings showed yesterday when he came on that he’s actually very good when linking up the play, and if used properly, he could be a valuable asset for us.
Julen Lopetegui seems to just not fancy Ings though, and Max Kilman’s comments on the 32-year-old striker have actually made the gaffer look rather silly if you ask me.
