It seems the mega- million signings may be over for the time being as West Ham appear to have undergone something of a refocus for the next transfer window. Rather than Tim jetting off to South America to bring back multi mega million signings, the emphasis would seem to be on markets and players available closer to home.
The Hammers’ transfer shift is now to focus on the domestic leagues, as reported by ex-WHU employee, looking to unearth talent in the Championship and nurture players through to success: Exactly the strategy used to find club captain and England international Jarrod Bowen who was brought from Hull City to the London Stadium – and the rest is history.
Quoted on thewesthamway.com, Ex WHU employee believes West Ham’s recruitment team will :”Give a firm focus on the top performing Championship players”: From the success in bringing Crysencio Summerville to London Stadium as well as Hammers’ captain Bowen, this is a clear shift of emphasis probably based on financial necessity as much as wisdom.
Apparently the club are already scouting the Championship for suitable players who match the right age and fitness profile.
Clearly some of the ‘landmark’ signings from overseas, Carlos Soler, Jean Clair Todibo and Guido Rodriguez have struggled with the physicality of English football so the change in focus does make sense.
This shift does call into question the frequent reports coming in of interest in Brazilian strikers or other costly international purchases. However, if Tim can go and unearth the next Jamie Vardy then he will certainly endear himself to Hammers’ fans once again.
