With Julen Lopetegui under mounting pressure the subject of a third term for David Moyes has been a topic of heated debate.
Would you take David Moyes back at West Ham?
That’s been the question aimed at Hammers fans from the media and their own supporters of late.
Julen Lopetegui has so far failed miserably to get West Ham going since replacing the Scot.
The awful performances witnessed this season are nothing new, though.
A malaise had set in at the turn of the year under Moyes.
West Ham’s only major trophy-winning manager of the last 43 years did have the team in sixth after a 2-0 win at Arsenal last December 28th.
But the second half of the season completely unravelled when word got out that Moyes would not be staying.
Kevin Nolan has since admitted that was the reason behind the collapse.
Prospect of third Moyes term divides some Hammers fans
There were just five wins for West Ham in 26 games in all competitions between January and May.
Moyes departed and was replaced by Lopetegui. And the Spaniard has only been able to muster another four in 13.
The 57-year-old is under intense pressure to keep his job.
There have even been reports the West Ham hierarchy will meet to decide Lopetegui’s future over the international break.
The world and its wife seems to have been linked as a potential replacement.
Eight managers and counting in fact.
Those who warned West Ham to ‘be careful what you wish for’ when parting company with Moyes have been queueing up to say ‘I told you so’.
Big Moyes West Ham return question answered
Many Hammers fans have rightly pointed out that just because they wanted a change from Moyes, does not mean they wanted Lopetegui as his replacement.
That is on the owners of course and the jury is very much out – although the judge has the gavel in hand.
Moyes has been doing a media circuit lately with appearances on shows like The Overlap.
He has been asked previously whether he would consider a third spell at West Ham, answering ‘I don’t know’ after pausing for thought.
Moyes will always be respected and loved by the vast majority of West Ham fans.
Some supporters are still angry he was not retained.
Debate often ignites on social media as to whether the Hammers should bring him back.
It would be some story.
Now the big Moyes return question looks to have been answered in a revelation that will shock many at West Ham.
talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook has revealed Moyes now wants to return to Premier League management.
In terms of timing, many may feel that’s something of a coincidence with Lopetegui said to be teetering on the brink ahead of daunting fixtures against Newcastle and Arsenal.
Crook also reveals FOUR Premier League clubs are jostling to make Moyes their next manager.
Moyes revelation will shock many at West Ham
But there will be no Christmas miracle at West Ham it seems.
Because West Ham are not among them.
Instead Crook has claimed Crystal Palace, Wolves, Southampton and Leicester are ready to bring the Scot in.
“Moyes is currently without a job having left his previous role with West Ham at the end of last season,” Crook states.
“The Scottish boss was replaced by Julen Lopetegui, who has led the Hammers to just three wins in 11 matches so far.
“talkSPORT understands that Moyes is keen to return to a Premier League dugout.
“The Premier League now heads into international breaks with some serious conversations to be had between some clubs and their managers.”
This news will obviously go down well with many at West Ham, who wanted Moyes out and a change of direction.
There is a section of the fanbase who had been open to a third Moyes stint at the London Stadium, though.
They say ‘better the devil you know’.
But Moyes riding back into the London Stadium on a white horse now almost certainly won’t happen because West Ham are clearly not interested in the slightest.
