Bayern Munich is a club in transition — and is managing it pretty well so far.
Two key members of the squad are out of contract at the end of this season, though, as Joshua Kimmich and Manuel Neuer are headed to free agency unless they reach agreements on contract extensions with the club.
The feeling here is that both will ink new deals — Kimmich with a five-year contract and Neuer for one more season. However, that will not be the only movement with the two players.
In a somewhat rare move, Neuer (maybe with some prompting from the club) will cede his captaincy to Kimmich to formally begin the transfer of power within the squad.
Bayern Munich will frame it as the dawn of new era, Neuer will be lauded for helping start the process, and Kimmich will (deservedly) get the armband he desires heading into the start of the 2025/26 campaign.
