AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori has been linked with a move to White Hart Lane, with Tottenham Hotspur looking to dip into the transfer market amid the injury crisis in their backline as Ange Postecoglou looks to add some depth in the position.
First choice duo Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have been a consistent presence in the treatment room, which has made it tough for the North Londoners in the ongoing campaign, and now the Lilywhites supporters are desperate for a new defender this window. And this is where links with Tomori make sense.
Postecoglou’s system of high defensive lines and fluid transitions suits the ex-Chelsea centre-back’s pace, strength, and tactical awareness as well as anyone.
However, the North Londoners Premier League rivals, Newcastle United, have reignited their interest in signing the England international in the ongoing winter transfer window, per GMS.
Newcastle interest changes everything as Tomori could return to England
Tomori did initially turn down Premier League interest in order to continue at San Siro; however, it now appears that he has changed his mind since he looks for regular playing time after almost being pushed to the fringes at Milan in the ongoing season.
Any potential Tomori transfer would come at the perfect time from Spurs, given how the Australian head coach in charge at N17 needs to settle a few issues in the defensive department and bring a bit of security for the longer term.
However, with Newcastle expressing interest, it is to be seen where this one goes – given how the Toons are playing this season, they are in a better state than Tottenham to qualify for the Champions League, and that will play on Tomori’s mind as well.
