Wolves forward Matheus Cunha has been subject to ample links with a move away from his current employers, including Tottenham Hotspur, among other Premiership heavyweights, with the North Londoners looking to add another striker to the roster at White Hart Lane in the ongoing winter transfer window.
Cunha thriving at Wolves amid interest
The growing interest in his signatures would have put Wolverhampton Wanderers on alert, given their intention to keep hold of the Brazilian for the ongoing season, and former England keeper Paul Robinson insists that Wolves would see Cunha as a huge part under new head coach Vitor Pereira, who fights for survival in the Premier League.
Wolves are said to be in talks with Cunha over a new contract extension to fend off Premier League suitors, including Ange Postecoglou’s side, according to reports in The Times, with the 25-year-old having already netted ten (10) goals alongside four (4) assists in the Premier League this season.
Did Pereira get an assurance?
In an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Robinson thinks that Pereira’s appointment would have had assurances around Cunha’s availability for the rest of the season. Speaking about Cunha and possibilities for a winter exit, the former Spurs man said:
“Look, he’s a fantastic player but I don’t think Wolves can afford to let him go. They let Kilman and Neto go at the start of the season and you can see the impact that’s had.
“Hiring Vitor Pereira, they’ve given themselves every chance of staying in the league because he’s an excellent manager, and will have been given assurances that he’d have Cunha until the end of the season.
“With the contract talk, I don’t think it’ll be long until he’s signed. But he’s certainly a player that a lot of Premier League clubs, including Tottenham, would take. Absolutely.”
Immediate need at N17
The Lilywhites appear to hold a decent amount of depth and quality in the forward line with Richarlison, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner, Mikey Moore, and Dominic Solanke. And Levy needs to be far more focused on addressing defensive vulnerabilities following injuries to Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, and Ben Davies.

While Cunha is an amazing striker and would add a lot to Tottenham, Levy (and fans) need to play to the fact that Tottenham’s immediate need lies in new defensive players rather than attacking acquisitions.
