Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Brighton & Hove Albion could line up for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester United.
Brighton & Hove Albion striker Danny Welbeck has a good chance to start against his former club when the Seagulls face Manchester United in Sunday’s Premier League battle at Old Trafford.
The 34-year-old came off the bench for the final 15 minutes of Thursday’s 2-0 triumph over Ipswich Town, his first top-flight appearance since early December following an injury.
Welbeck replaced fellow striker Joao Pedro, who battled back from his own fitness scare to start at Portman Road but may now be dropped as Fabian Hurzeler navigates a tight turnaround.
As a result, Welbeck could very well spearhead the charge with support from Kaoru Mitoma, Simon Adingra and Georginio Rutter, who scored Brighton’s second off the bench in midweek and is pushing to displace Yasin Ayari.
Matt O’Riley and the much-coveted Carlos Baleba should continue to function at the base of the midfield, though, while Pervis Estupinan and Joel Veltman should be guaranteed starters in the full-back areas too.
However, Adam Webster – who captained the side on Thursday evening – could cede his place to full-time skipper Lewis Dunk, a second-half substitute at Portman Road following a calf problem.
Jan Paul van Hecke and Bart Verbruggen complete the defensive line for Brighton, who will be without Igor Julio (knee), Ferdi Kadioglu (toe), James Milner (thigh) and Mats Wieffer (thigh) once more.
Brighton & Hove Albion possible starting lineup:
Verbruggen; Veltman, Van Hecke, Dunk, Estupinan; Baleba, O’Riley; Adingra, Rutter, Mitoma; Welbeck
