Ange Postecoglou is easily the most under-pressure manager in the Premier League. Having failed to build upon last season’s results, it looks like it’s only a matter of time before the 59-year-old is asked to pack his bags.
For the time being, though, he remains in North London, and one football expert believes the club are willing to back him in the ongoing transfer market as well.
David Ornstein provides definitive January transfer market update after Ange Postecoglou sack verdict emerges
According to football journalist David Ornstein, Tottenham will look to make more signings before the January transfer window slams shut, after deciding to stick with Ange Postecoglou amid a torrid run of form.
“They will look to the transfer market to support Ange Postecoglou this month, I believe. They could add further reinforcements in attack and defence. There is some resource available. PSR is not a problem at Tottenham, profitability and sustainability. It’s more the cash flow. But if they can do something on top of what they’ve already done with the goalkeeper, [Antonin] Kinsky, I think they will.“
Ornstein on Spurs’ January plans, as quoted by GiveMeSport.
Tottenham’s last Premier League win came last month against bottom-of-the-table Southampton. They’re winless in six Premier League game and face second-from-bottom Leicester City next. In the midweek, they have a Europa League meeting away at Hoffenheim.
While Spurs have chosen to stick with Postecoglou, speculation continues regarding his successor, with the likes of Max Allegri, Marco Silva, Kieran McKenna, and Andoni Iraola named in recent days.
TTLB Opinion
With or without Postecoglou, Tottenham are going to need more players. With Kinsky they have once again shown their efficacy in picking up promising young talent. This is something they do not need to change.
That said, it is undeniable that they need to move on from Postecoglou at some point, and the results from their entire season thus far indicate at needing to do that before the season ends. The Carabao Cup semi-final may well be the only thing staying Daniel Levy’s hand, though Spurs won’t want to enter April as close to the relegation zone as they are right now.
