Tottenham Hotspur’ brought in highly regarded 21-year-old goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague in the ongoing winter transfer window as the North Londoners looked to put cement on the lack of potential players between the goal following Vicario’s injury that has kept him on the sidelines for a significant period of time.
And he came in a bit as an unknown entity but showed his potential very early on in his debut following a splendid performance against Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semifinals.
While the Lilywhites supporters felt that they had found their new number one, someone with the potential to replace Vicario in the long term, he did show some moments of weakness in the games that followed. This only tells us that he is good but still has levels to explore and so much to improve.
Kinsky tipped for greatness
Now Kinsky’s former manager, Jindřich Trpišovský, has put into words his confidence in the young goalkeeper’s potential, where he went through the 2003-born keeper’s rise from teenage success with Dukla Prague to that impressive performance against the Merseysiders. He said (speaking to Dnes via Sport Witness):
“Certainly not, it couldn’t be done. I can’t imagine the coach’s right of veto in any departure. Except in the best clubs in the world, which are secured, and their players practically have nowhere to go.
“I myself was very happy, what kind of story Tonda [Kinský] is writing. I saw him for the first time on the pitch of Admira in Prague.
“I was behind the goal when he was winning the cup for Dukla. He was 17. Now I turn on the TV and the same Tonda is playing against Liverpool. I’ll admit I’ve rarely had such a feeling in front of the TV.
“Now I will be very brave, but I am convinced that Tonda has the quality to one day become the best goalkeeper in Czech history.”
What now?
In retrospect, the £12.5 million that Levy paid to bring him to White Hart Lane could end up proving to be a bargain if Kinsky were to fulfil his potential. While Guglielmo Vicario is currently Spurs’ first-choice goalkeeper, the 21-year-old has shown his talent, and recent form suggests that he could challenge for the starting position in the seasons to come.

Now the focus for Kinsky will be on getting some Premier League games while Vicario is still on the sidelines and aiming to compete for the starting spot.
