Tim Steidten certainly hasn’t covered himself in glory since becoming the West Ham United director of football 18 moths ago.
West Ham brought Tim Steidten to the London Stadium in July 2023, but he has seriously underwhelmed in his role as far as I’m concerned.
Known as the ‘pearl diver’ during his time with Bayer Leverkusen, the 45-year-old has failed to live up to that moniker with the Hammers.
The good news for Steidten is that Potter has allowed him to return to the club’s Rush Green training base, after he was banned from doing so by the previous two managers.
However, things aren’t looking good for the German.
When Lopetegui was sacked two weeks ago, it was claimed that Steidten could follow him out the door after a really questionable summer transfer window.
And the imminent arrival of Kyle Macaulay from Chelsea will see Steidten’s influence at the club diminish from here on out.
Now there is some real proof that the former Bayer Leverkusen man simply has no future at the London Stadium.
Curtains for Tim Steidten after West Ham record transfer claim
The 45-year-old arrived in East London with a really big reputation, but he has quite simply failed to deliver.
It has irked me that he tried to take centre stage at the club during the first few weeks of the season, and he was definitely too involved in the day-to-day running of the club.
When things turned sour, he didn’t show his face did he!
And now, it seems like Steidten could well be finished at West Ham.
It emerged on Monday that the Hammers had submitted a blockbuster £57 million bid for Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran – a club record offer.
And Claret and Hugh claim that Steidten had absolutely nothing to do with the move to sign Duran.
Surely that means only one thing for the German, and that is that his days at the London Stadium are well and truly numbered.
It’s no surprise really is it? Steidten’s performance in the transfer windows for the Hammers has been poor to say the least.
Tim Steidten’s underwhelming West Ham record
The German has certainly flattered to deceive at the London Stadium.
His first summer window at the club saw him bring in Mohammed Kudus, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Edson Alvarez.
Then he failed to sign anyone in January, although that was most likely down to the owners.
The summer of 2024 saw him take the lead in pursuits of Niclas Fullkrug, Luis Guilherme and Jean-Clair Todibo.
It has to be said that the only name out of those listed above who has impressed consistently is Kudus.
And the Ghanaian was hardly an undiscovered gem when Steidten brought him to the London Stadium was he!
The only youngster he has signed is Luis Guilherme, and the club are said to be trying to move the Brazilian on already.
In my opinion, Tim Steidten has been nothing other than an abject failure at West Ham, and it’s now time the owners moved on from that misjudged experiment.
