Tottenham Hotspur has been exploring possibilities to compound on their midfield in the midseason as the Lilywhites look to bring in reinforcements to get their season back in order, and Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz has been linked with a move to White Hart Lane. The Man City academy graduate is ready to return to England following his high-profile switch from Aston Villa to Juventus, which didn’t work out quite well for the 26-year-old.
Luiz has been struggling to replicate his performances donning the Villa badge in Turin, and Thiago Motta has opened doors for him to leave The Old Lady this January.
He has reportedly been offered to Tottenham Hotspur; however, the North Londoners now face competition from Manchester City to pursue his signature.
City stance aids Tottenham transfer for Luiz
According to highly reliable transfer guru David Ornstein of The Athletic, the Premier League reigning champions are weighing up a move for Luiz as they look to bring in new faces. However, Pep Guardiola’s side is only interested in getting him on a straight loan deal, while the Italian club reportedly prefers a loan with an obligation to buy.
For Tottenham, Luiz could bring in much-needed depth and dynamism complemented by his experience in the Premier League. And City’s current stance increases the potential for a transfer to go Spurs way if it fell to the chiefs at Juventus.
