Ben Jacobs and other sources are reporting that Chelsea youngster Jimmy Jay Morgan is about to join Gillingham on loan for the rest of the season.
The striker has long been considered a top talent, and his consistent efficiency in front of goal has made him a standout in the academy over the last 2 years.
The deal is supposedly being “finalised today” and Morgan has already trained with his new teammates.
Morgan signed a new contract in the summer, and clearly has the backing of the academy staff who have used him regularly since he arrived from Southampton. We said when he signed that deal that he would likely play 6 months more in the Development Squad and then be considered for a loan to the lower leagues if he had continued to develop physically and play well in PL2. Well, here we are 6 months later and exactly that is set to happen.
🚨 Exclusive: Jimmy-Jay Morgan set to join Gillingham on loan from Chelsea. If all goes to plan, he could be in the squad for Tranmere. Understand deal being finalised today.

Young talent finally stepping out into senior game to test himself
Morgan came to Chelsea two years ago for a fee around €3.4m, with the potential for more to be added later.
He has an impressive 8 goals and 2 assists in his 11 PL2 games this season, following last year where he had 6 goals and one assist in 14.
Gillingham are rattling around the bottom of League 2 – it’s not a glamorous move at all, but it should mean instant game time for the young striker. The Gills play tomorrow against Tranmere, and after training with his new colleagues today, it looks more than possible that JJM gets some minutes, and perhaps even a start. We’d love to see him get his first goal, and we’ll be watching closely.
Good luck JJ – go and tear it up and the Championship could be calling next season.
