The Tim Steidten experiment at West Ham United quite simply hasn’t worked out has it.
West Ham brought in Tim Steidten from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2023, and gave him the title of Director of Football at the London Stadium.
However, his stay at West Ham will end up being a short-lived one, with his sacking set to be announced imminently.
He never saw eye-to-eye with David Moyes or Julen Lopetegui, and was banned from the training ground by both managers.
It’s clear to see now that he just wasn’t a very good fit for the Hammers.
And now he’s on the verge of the sack. The club are said to have taken quite incredible action with Steidten.
Unprecedented action West Ham have taken with Tim Steidten
The gig is up for the German at the London Stadium, that much is clear.
Steidten angered the West Ham fans earlier this season when he was at the front and centre of every press conference.
He seemed to be overstepping the mark when it came to getting overly involved in the day-to-day running of the football club.
The 45-year-old was also giving out interviews to anyone who wanted to listen. However, when West Ham’s form went from bad to worse, he couldn’t be found for love nor money!
Now his time has run out at West Ham.
According to Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg, the Hammers owners have now taken unprecedented action with Steidten.
Steinberg claims that the German’s access to internal systems at West Ham has been restricted, after the club froze him out of transfer talks.
That’s the correct call if you ask me.
Steidten has really underwhelmed since joining West Ham, and he certainly hasn’t lived up to his ‘pearl diver’ moniker.
Tim Steidten’s signings at West Ham
There has been one unequivocal hit in my opinion – Mohammed Kudus.
The rest are a mish-mash of very average and underwhelming players.
Edson Alvarez has disappointed, whilst Konstantinos Mavropanos has been atrocious for the Hammers.
In the summer of 2024, Tim Steidten oversaw the signings of Niclas Fullkrug, Jean-Clair Todibo and Luis Guilherme at West Ham.
The first two have been nowhere near good enough whilst Guilherme just looks like a complete dud.
It’s little wonder why he’s about to be moved on by David Sullivan is it?
Now let’s see what Kyle Macaulay is able to do. I fully expect our transfer strategy to be much more of a cohesive one going forward.
