Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso has absolutely ripped into the West Ham fans after yesterday’s events.
West Ham beat Fiorentina 2-1 in the Europa Conference League final out in Prague last night.
The game had to be stopped during the first-half last night when Fiorentina ace Cristiano Biraghi was struck in the head by an object thrown from the West Ham end.
There is of, course, no excuse for that disgusting behaviour.
However, it was only a small minority and the vast majority of Hammers fans were impeccably behaved out in Prague.
Fiorentina fans didn’t cover themselves in glory before the match by attacking the West Ham faithful inside restaurants and bars in the city centre.
In spite of that, the Fiorentina president still found it necessary to dig out the Hammers travelling support…
Fiorentina president absolutely rips into West Ham
Commisso was clearly disgusted by the behaviour of some Hammers fans and let rip at those who caused trouble inside the ground after, as quoted by the Evening Standard:
“There have been episodes on the pitch where the referee had to make the difference.[Luka] Jovic came out with a broken nose, Biraghi with a cut on his head. I spoke to the president of the Premier League, those of West Ham are animals in the way they treated ours. It’s not right.”
As mentioned earlier, there is no excuse for what some of the fans did inside the stadium last night.
However, Commisso should look closer to home if he wants to get angry about the behaviour of some supporters.
The English will once again get the media headlines but the Fiorentina fans disgraced themselves in Prague as well.
It’s time for the coverage of trouble during European games to be covered with more balance.
