Hammers reject £22m bid for star man
The Hammers are expected to reject a £22m bid from Inter Milan for Gianluca Scamacca. The Italian club are believed to have made an opening offer of £20m within the last few hours.
West Ham rejected Inter’s initial offer, but are bracing themselves for a second bid. The expected £22m proposal will also be refused, but a deal could be close.
Sky Sports Italia are reporting that the transaction could be concluded within days. This will come as bad news to Roma, who had expected to have a clear run at Scamacca. As a result, Jose Mourinho’s team had recently made a series of derisory loan offers for the player.
The Italian international was signed for £35 million, almost exactly one year ago. Whilst West Ham are aware his value has depreciated, they’re still demanding a large fee.
It is thought that an offer of £25m with a sell-on clause could be enough to sanction a transfer. Quite what the club will do with the money is anyone’s guess. There is seemingly an inability to spend the current £100m+ Declan Rice bounty, so this could create more problems than it fixes.
Scamacca himself is keen to return back to Italy. Yesterday a source at the club revealed to Claret & Hugh that they were aware the player wanted out. The striker switched agents halfway through the season in very public circumstances.
Two weeks ago, Scamacca revealed to the Italian press that it was his dream to play for Roma. During the same interview he also spoke of his admiration for Jose Mourinho.
In fairness, the player did say that he was happy at West Ham during the same interview. However, the club expect him to depart during the current transfer window.
