Erik ten Hag has sent a clear message to West Ham over sale of Man United star Scott McTominay amid the latest speculation.
Just when you thought West Ham’s summer transfer window couldn’t get much worse, along comes Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag with some more salt for a gaping wound.
West Ham’s painfully slow – bordering on negligible – transfer window thus far has seen the club resort to bidding for a host of players in the hope of getting some deals done.
So far that has been to no avail with bids for Conor Gallagher, James Ward-Prowse, Joao Palhinha and goodness knows who else knocked back.
Another player high on West Ham’s agenda is Man United star Scott McTominay as David Moyes looks to bring in two midfielders to replace Declan Rice.
Earlier this week Sky Sports stated West Ham had held initial talks with Man United over the signing McTominay and Harry Maguire.

West Ham reportedly made an approach about signing McTominay from Man United. But a big gap in valuation was exposed by a source close to the board.
Speculation over West Ham’s interest in McTominay has not dissipated, though. And many on both the West Ham and Manchester United side feel a deal could be done somewhere between £30-40m.
That looked much less likely yesterday when an injury in the Red Devils camp cast doubt over any deal with West Ham.
Now Ten Hag has sent a clear message to West Ham over the sale of Man United star McTominay.
Manchester United played Borussia Dortmund in a pre-season friendly on their US tour overnight.
And Ten Hag made McTominay’s position abundantly clear by naming the Scot as Man United’s captain for the 3-2 defeat.
The Man United boss knows exactly what he is doing here. It’s no co-incidence he has named McTominay as skipper in light of the interest from West Ham.
On one hand it could be mind games to drive up the price in any negotiations with West Ham. After all you don’t sign a player that has just captained Manchester United for peanuts.
The reality, though, is more likely that there is no way the Dutchman will entertain letting McTominay leave unless the Hammers meet the reported £45m asking price.
Where West Ham turn next is anyone’s guess.
Especially after another of Moyes’ alleged prime targets to replace Rice has snubbed the Hammers in favour of a move elsewhere.
