Arsenal have just done West Ham a huge double favour which could result in the dream signing of a target in the summer window.
Arsenal have caused West Ham a big problem by taking captain and talisman Declan Rice off their hands but now they look like they might repair some of the damage.
West Ham have been heavily linked with a move for Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun in recent months.
According to the likes of Football.London, West Ham have been showing genuine interest in bringing talented Gunners ace Balogun to the London Stadium from Arsenal.
The trouble for David Moyes is that a host of other clubs have been linked with serious interest in the Brooklyn-born star too.
And is it any wonder after the 22-year-old US international shone on loan at Reims last season, scoring 22 goals in 39 appearances.
MORE WEST HAM STORIES
With the futures of Michail Antonio and Gianluca Scamacca uncertain, West Ham have been linked with a host of strikers in the summer transfer window.
With Balogun slipping further down the Arsenal pecking order due to the arrival of Kai Havertz – and having made it clear he does not want to go out on another loan – West Ham have been alerted to his availability.
Any West Ham move for Balogun – or any striker for that matter – has always hinged on whether they sell Scamacca.
We reported on Hammers News last week that Inter Milan had joined West Ham in the pursuit of Balogun.
And we highlighted that there was some good news for Moyes in that Inter were said to be baulking at Arsenal’s reported valuation – which varies between £35-50m depending on which source you believe.
Well now Arsenal have done West Ham a huge double favour which could result in the dream signing of their target.
Because Arsenal have priced Inter Milan out of a move for their first choice target Balogun.
And the Italian giants have now overnight switched attentions to a permanent move for West Ham’s wantaway forward Scamacca.
Sport Italia claim Inter are confident of signing Scamacca for a deal close to totalling the £30m West Ham want.
So not only does that give West Ham the money they seek to release Scamacca.
It also clears the path for the Hammers to use the money – and the £105m they have burning a hole in their pockets from the Rice sale to the Gunners – to go for Balogun.
A coach who has been working one-to-one with Balogun over the summer claims he is expected to leave Arsenal this summer.
And he rates him as one of the most exciting up-and-coming numbers nines in world football.
West Ham will also be encouraged by a coy response on Balogun’s Arsenal future from Gunners boss Mikel Arteta during pre-season.
