Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou hails senior leader Son Heung-min for his inspiring display against Arsenal
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou spoke highly of captain Son Heung-min and talked about the significant impact the South Korean has on his fellow teammates at the Premier League club this season.
The Spurs staged two comebacks to secure an electrifying 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the North London derby at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, with Son scoring twice to rescue his team.
The 31-year-old has further solidified his resurgence in form with an impressive performance in scoring goals. The captain has netted five goals in the Premier League this season.
The experienced winger showed excellent finishing skills while scoring his first goal, slotting the ball neatly into the bottom corner following a fantastic setup by James Maddison.
Later in the second half, he showcased his composure once more when Maddison provided another assist for Tottenham’s second goal.
It’s worth noting that Son had a below-par season by his usual standards last year. However, he has already reached half of his total goal count from the entire previous Premier League season.
And after his display against the Gunners, Postecoglou admitted that the in-form attacker is reminding everyone just how good he really is with his outstanding display.
As quoted by Football London, the manager said:
“He’s been outstanding as a leader and as a player. His first thought is what’s best for the team and he puts himself into that position and then he has the quality to finish.”
“I’m so happy for him. When I talk about that great environment with the players, Sonny is leading that with Madders and Romero.”
Spurs are making progress under Postecoglou, and this match marked their first big test in the post-Harry Kane era. It’s safe to say they aced the test with flying colours.
The resurgence of Son has been a joy to watch, and the manager also deserves credit for bringing out the best in the Asian star.
It is looking as if the veteran star is enjoying football once again, and his excellent rapport with new signing Maddison has been the talking point of the ongoing season.
Son’s fiery pace and lethal finishing have helped him rise above all challenges, and he has continued to work hard on his skill set.
Although Spurs have not won a single game at the Emirates since 2010, there was much to admire from Postecoglou’s rejuvenated team.
