Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou is happy with Destiny Udogie’s brave performance against Arsenal’s pacy wingers
Both Ange Postecoglou and Destiny Udogie had their debut experiences in the North London derby, and Tottenham Hotspur’s manager particularly praised young left-back Destiny Udogie for his performance in the match.
The Emirates Stadium witnessed an intense derby today, resulting in a 2-2 draw where both teams secured a point each.
Udogie, who has had an impressive start with Spurs, faced a challenging task today in dealing with Arsenal’s standout player, Bukayo Saka. This match marked his first key test of the season.
Saka made a significant impact on the game by scoring one goal when his shot was deflected into the net by Cristian Romero.
In the first half, the English international had the upper hand over his counterpart, but Udogie mounted a strong comeback in the second half and successfully kept the Arsenal player at bay.
Despite a challenging start to the game, which included a booking, Udogie can take pride in his performance, as he delivered another promising display as a young player.
In a conversation with the press, Spurs’ manager, Postecoglou, revealed why he was happy with the 20-year-old full-back’s performance during the match.
As quoted by Football London, the Greek manager said:
“Arsenal have outstanding wide players but they dealt with it. Destiny picked up a yellow card but I felt he dealt with it well and ended up as the dominant player on that side. It will have been a great learning experience for him.”
The fans had some concerns about Udogie in the first half, especially when he received a yellow card. It looked like he might either be substituted or, even worse, sent off.
However, he turned things around in the second half and delivered an outstanding performance, effectively neutralising Arsenal’s pacy attackers.
The left-back position has long been a problem area for Tottenham, but somehow, Udogie appears to have worked wonders and resolved this issue.
Since his debut for the Lilywhites, the 20-year-old has been truly exceptional. He has made very few mistakes this season, and the fans’ impressions of him have been extremely positive.
To be honest, most of them didn’t expect this. There was a possibility that the Italian star might struggle following the departures of Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici.
