Manchester City are expected to open discussions with Ederson over a new contract, according to HITC.
The 30-year-old has been angling for a transfer away from the Etihad all summer, with lucrative offers from the Saudi Pro League on the table.
Both Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr tried to lure Ederson away from the Premier League champions, but they were unwilling to meet the goalkeeper’s £40m asking price.
The two Saudi teams ultimately signed alternatives, with Predrag Rajkovic moving to Al-Ittihad and Bento joining Al-Nassr.
What does the future hold for Ederson?
There isn’t believed to be any bad blood between City and the Brazilian international, with the club understanding why the shot-stopper would be tempted by the money on offer from the Middle East.
Ederson currently takes home £100,000 a week and reports suggested that he could have earned almost five times that if he had secured a move to either Al-Ittihad or Al-Nassr.
Now a switch to Saudi Arabia no longer looks like an option, though, it seems City are hoping that the keeper will commit his long-term future to the club. His current deal has less than two years left to run.
City aim to make him one of the best-paid keepers
HITC report that the Cityzens will look to give Ederson a contract which would see him become one of the “top paid” goalkeepers in Europe. Of course, that doesn’t mean he will earn close to what he was offered by Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr but it should give the Brazilian assurances about how much he is valued by the team.
Manager Pep Guardiola has made it clear how much he rates his current No.1. Speaking back in May, he said:
“Eddy has done it many times before. Know why we won the Champions League? Ederson made incredible saves at 1-0. And against [Karim] Benzema [in the semi-final]. He was the key to win. We cannot define this period [of success] without Eddy.”
