Manchester City were “offered” Joao Felix by Atletico Madrid, according to the Daily Mail.
It is believed that the Cityzens were given the opportunity to sign the Portuguese international on loan, with an option to buy at the end of the season.
Felix was reportedly included in Atletico’s opening bid for Julian Alvarez, in addition to an undisclosed amount of cash.
The Daily Mail report that City have been asking interested clubs to stump up as much as £95m for the Argentinian striker, which means it was unsurprising that Atletico’s initial proposal was swiftly knocked back.
Felix is unlikely to be of interest to City
It’s fair to say that the 24-year-old’s star has fallen in recent years. After Atletico paid an eyewatering £113m for the player five years ago, he has struggled to fulfil his potential.
He agitated for a move during the 2023 January transfer window and Felix joined Chelsea on loan. However, his fortunes didn’t improve during his six months at Stamford Bridge. On his return to Spain, he made the switch to Barcelona on a temporary basis but they were also unwilling to sign him permanently.
Felix is currently training with Atletico, although he is clearly available for transfer. Even so, you can’t see City being interested in taking him to the Etihad under any circumstances.
What is the situation with Alvarez?
The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have all been credited with an interest in the forward but Atletico are making the most concerted effort to buy him.
City are reluctant to offload Alvarez but, with the player seemingly unhappy with his role at the club, a transfer could happen, as long as their demands are met. At the time of writing. Atletico’s last bid was €75m (£64.3m), which is stilll below his reported asking price.
