EFL Championship side Middlesbrough are reportedly closing in on signing Manchester City youngster Micah Hamilton.
According to The Athletic, the 20-year-old forward has agreed on personal terms and will undergo a medical at the club soon. City are currently negotiating a buy-back clause and a sell-on clause for Hamilton’s permanent transfer to Middlesbrough, and discussions are said to be progressing well.
Boro to sign exciting youngster Micah Hamilton
Hamilton was part of the Man City squad that recently toured the USA as part of their pre-season preparations. The forward played a part in every game except one, making three substitute appearances. Hamilton made a positive impression in each of these games, most notably assisting James McAtee in a 3-2 loss against AC Milan with a pinpoint cross following a good dribble.
The forward has been with the club since the age of nine. Hamilton made his senior debut for City in a UEFA Champions League tie against Red Star Belgrade in December 2023. The youngster had a dream debut, scoring City’s opener in a 3-2 victory away from home. While he has been on the bench a few times, Hamilton has yet to make a Premier League appearance for the Citizens.
Hamilton was part of City’s FIFA Club World Cup-winning squad and has also represented England at youth levels, having played for the Under-16 team and most recently the Under-20 team.
Boro pull off coup with Hamilton signing
The 20-year-old is primarily a left winger but can also play as a forward or as an attacking midfielder. Hamilton made 19 appearances in the Premier League 2 last season, scoring twice and assisting a further six goals.
Despite his talent, breaking into the Man City squad would have been tough for Hamilton. A permanent move away will allow him to prove himself at the senior level in what is considered one of the toughest leagues in the world.
Additionally, City youngster Finley Burns is close to moving to Hull City on a loan deal. Journalist Fabrizio Romano has stated that the defender will undergo his medical with the Championship side tomorrow.
