Manchester City winger Oscar Bobb has fractured a bone in his leg and he is expected to be sidelined for a significant period of time, according to The Athletic.
It is believed the Norwegian international picked up the problem in a training session on Wednesday, although it is thought to be a non-contact injury, having been sustained when making a turn on the pitch.
City are hopeful that Bobb will only be sidelined for a few months, with the initial assessment suggesting that he could be back before the end of the year. However, he will need to undergo additional tests so a more exact return date can be ascertained.
The Athletic report that the 21-year-old was “expected to start” City’s first Premier League fixture against Chelsea on Sunday, so it is a cruel blow for the player.
Bobb has impressed Guardiola in pre-season
After catching the eye on City’s tour of the United States, manager Pep Guardiola praised the Norwegian, stating he has all the attributes to play at the highest level:
“Sometimes he’s a bit shy but when he plays without fear he has incredible potential.”
Following the tour, Guardiola confirmed that Bobb, James McAtee and Nico O’Reilly would all be part of the first-team setup this campaign.
Will City sign a forward before the transfer window closes?
Guardiola had already hinted that he wanted to reinforce the frontline after Julian Alvarez’s move to Atletico Madrid, and the injury picked up by Bobb will make it an even more pressing priority.
Initial talks have already been held with Eberechi Eze’s representatives, so an approach for Crystal Palace midfielder looks increasingly likely. The Cityzens are also said to be keeping tabs on Rodrygo’s situation at Real Madrid.
