As the transfer window closes, attention starts turning away from transfers and…to an incredibly unfortunately timed international break. But after that international break, it is all about the football to come. For Bayern Munich, winning the Champions League in the Finale Dahoam and the Bundesliga are top of the priority list. But, as always, the Bavarian giants will have to compete with some tough foes to try and win these titles.
Speaking to German outlet kicker, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, Bayern captain Manuel Neuer was asked about how he rates the top international opponents for the Champions League along with expected competitors Bayer Leverkusen, Lawn ball sport Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund. His response goes as follows: “Internationally it is difficult to say, of course there are always the usual suspects like Real Madrid and Manchester City. Arsenal also has a good squad and good energy. Domestically I have the feeling that Dortmund, Leipzig and Leverkusen are very strong. After 8-9 match days – when midweek games start – you get a tendency, then you can assess the competitors better.”
Predictions are a difficult business, as one is forced to inherently work with less information than is required to make informed decisions. Neuer’s belief that it takes 8-9 matchdays to make such decisions reflects the experience that comes with his many years in the business. Regardless of who Bayern comes up against, though, the club will no doubt face a fight to right the wrong of last season’s trophyless campaign and bring back to the Säbener Straße the trophies Bayern so desperately craves every season.
