Graham Potter has refused to be drawn into speculation over him and Manchester United, saying a lot of what’s in the media is ‘untrue and false’.
The Red Devils are in a period of managerial uncertainty with Erik ten Hag‘s position far from secure due to a shaky start to the season.
While the Dutchman will have at least two games to save his job, Potter has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford as a preferred option for INEOS.
Potter has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea in April 2023 after a disappointing 31 games in charge, but his fine work at Swansea and Brighton has kept his stock high.
Discussing the prospect of taking the Man United job, Potter told Sky Sports: “I think what I’ve read so far in the media, a lot of it’s untrue and false.
“I think I’m the only coach in world football that’s been linked with Stoke City and Napoli in the same week!
“I take what the media say with a pinch of salt. I’ve had lots of conversations with lots of people and for the respect of everybody I think it’s best to keep those private.”
Asked if he’d welcome the challenge by host Dave Jones, Potter replied: “I’m sitting here enjoying the challenge of answering your questions, that’s where I’m at at the moment.”
Potter is also a name firmly in the mix for the England men’s team job.
The Three Lions are looking for a new head coach following Gareth Southgate‘s decision to step down following England’s journey to the Euro 2024 final.
While Lee Carsley is in interim charge right now, the former Chelsea boss was questioned about the role, leading him to humourously try to deflect.
Asked about the England links, Potter joked: “I think it’s time for a commercial break, isn’t it?!
“As an Englishman, of course it’s a fantastic job and I’m supportive of FA and what they decide to do and whoever the next coach is.
“Gareth did a fantastic job and I’m sure Lee will in his time, however long that is.”
Asked about his next managerial job, Potter added: “I’m open to everything. I’m open to anything.
“As I said at the start, I had 12 years and a fantastic journey from the fourth tier of Swedish football to the last eight of the Champions League.
“I’d really like to spend the next 12 years in the same sort of position; developing players, developing teams, working with people – wherever that is, I’m open to anything.”
