Bayern Munich legends Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller are inching ever closer to the twilight of their careers.
But just how much do the pair — 38 and 35 years of age respectively — have left in the tank?
Each has a contract expiring at the end of the 2024/25 season. But Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund is not counting them out just yet.
“We don’t need to talk a lot about Manu and Thomas,” Freund said recently on the topic of the duo’s future (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “We’re in good talks with them. They’re currently in really good form. They had a good start to the season together with the team and we’re happy to have them. We’ll speak calmly in the coming weeks and months to see what their plans are and how they see their roles. We know what we have in them and they know what they have at Bayern.”
It was previously reported that Bayern planned talks with Neuer for the upcoming Spring — but could Müller, too, be in line for one more year after this one?
And if they both make it to the end of 2025/26, does the FIFA 2026 Men’s World Cup start to look like a tempting option for a pair currently retired from the German men’s national team?
Never say never…
For now, Neuer and Müller are enjoying their football, and Bayern fans are lucky enough to continue enjoying them. Long may it last.
