Former Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Götze recently reflected upon his move to the Bavarian side in 2013
in the book “Stimmen der Eintracht”. Per @DIEZEIT via @iMiaSanMia, in a letter to himself, Götze noted the repercussions of his move to Bayern: “What you don’t yet realize is that the decisions you make for yourself will hurt other people. Much more than you can imagine.”
Was Götze being a little selfish? He seems to think so: “You only see yourself, your own path, your career. And so far you have experienced no resistance, no failures.” After all, everything had worked out for Mario Götze till then with accolades and honors at the youth level for club and country as well as various titles with Borussia Dortmund: “Everything has gone well, always well. You lack perspective. Where would it come from? You only have your beliefs”
In the end, the move did not quite work out for the young star. But Götze still has magic in his boots, even in his somewhat more pragmatic and defensive role for Eintracht Frankfurt these days.
