The upcoming summer transfer window is set to be led by a new hierarchy at Bayern Munich. After clinching the Bundesliga title in Cologne on Saturday, Bayern announced the departures of CEO Oliver Kahn and Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic.
Salihamidzic celebrated the title with the squad in Cologne. He was in the stands during the game and eventually travelled back to Munich with the squad. The former Bayern midfielder insisted that he is leaving the club on good terms after bidding farewell to players in the dressing room.
The same cannot be said about Oliver Kahn. The former German goalkeeper didn’t travel with the squad on Saturday. The club statement insisted that Kahn was not in the stands due to illness. After the win against Koln, Kahn revealed on social media that he was not allowed to travel with the team for the final game of the season.
Oliver Kahn insisted that Saturday was a disappointing day since he was not able to celebrate the title with the team. While talking to the media on Sunday (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern president Herbert Hainer admitted that Kahn’s departure didn’t take place on amicable terms, so he was not allowed to travel with the squad.
“Things worked out very well with Hasan, we mutually agreed and he went to Köln with us. We had the same conversation with Oliver, it was very emotional and we couldn’t part ways amicably.”
“As a result, we convened an extraordinary Supervisory Board meeting on Friday, in which we made the decision that we would part ways with Oliver and that he would not travel to Köln either.”
Hainer believes that differences can be sorted and Kahn can be welcomed back into the Bayern family. The club president also unveiled the new CEO- Jan-Christian Dreesen. He will succeed Kahn with immediate effect. Meanwhile, the club will continue to work on finding a replacement for Salihamidzic.
Dressen has previously worked as Chief Financial Officer at Bayern. He was expected to leave the club this summer, with DFL reportedly interested in bringing him on board. However, the supervisory board at Bayern decided to appoint Dressen as the new CEO of Bayern, replacing Kahn in this role.
It is such a shame that things ended with Kahn on a sour note. He has been a fantastic servant of the club as a player and CEO. Things have not gone well for him and Salihamidzic in the past few months, as their decision to sack Julian Nagelsmann attracted a lot of scrutiny.

Despite the title win on the last day, it has been a season of inconsistency and disappointment for Die Roten. Kahn and Salihamidzic had to face the brunt for it since they had a big say in the decision-making process. The Bavarian faithful will hope that new appointments will have a better spell than their predecessors.
