Manchester City are “really close” to agreeing personal terms with Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist claims that the Premier League champions could soon enter direct talks with his club to negotiate the transfer fee:

Supporters on Twitter are, on the whole, pretty pleased that Kovacic could soon be plying his trade at the Etihad Stadium:

He’s gonna be a sleeper signing of the window. Very good player, reasonably priced and is probably a rotation player

Kovacic only has a year left on his contract at the Blues so City have been rather opportunistic by deciding to go after the Croatian international.
He could still cost as much as £35m but manager Pep Guardiola is believed to be a big fan of the midfielder, and his arrival could mitigate the possible departure of captain Ilkay Gundogan.
The German international’s current deal expires at the end of next month and it is now looking increasingly likely that he will leave Manchester after seven years.
