Erik ten Hag believes Marcus Rashford can play better than how he’s playing right now.
Manchester United are not playing football that’s anything close to their best stuff at the moment. That much is obvious. Erik ten Hag needs to take control of this situation sooner rather than later. If it spirals out of hand for much longer, he could find himself in trouble.
The gaffer needs his key stars to step up to the plate and begin to perform at levels we know they can. You take Marcus Rashford as the prime example. He was simply stunning last term, but this year, he just hasn’t gotten going at all – leaving us all somewhat worried.
Fans are starting to question the effort levels from the Englishman, though Ten Hag has no concerns in that regard, admitting that the player ‘works hard’ and he will rediscover his best form. The gaffer also went on to say that the key United star ‘can do better’ than what he’s producing right now.
Check out what the gaffer had to say in full here:
“I think he knows he can do better than he’s doing now. I’m sure it’ll come,” said the United boss, per The Mirror. “He works hard, he will finish and it will come. It’s not automatic. As you’ve seen today, we were in the right positions and the decision-making was not good enough and we didn’t score.”
Honestly, Rashford has made me sigh on far too many occasions this season. The Englishman just looks off the pace, while sometimes, he doesn’t track back nor does he put in the effort. It’s just not good enough.
He’s now paid like one of the world’s global footballing superstars. He needs to act like it and put in that work rate every single time he takes to the field as that’s the absolute minimum us fans want to see.
Whether it’s due to the new contract and now he feels like he can cruise, or whether he’s just not enjoying his football at the moment remains to be seen. We all know what he can do when he’s fully fit and firing, which is what makes this situation so frustrating.
