Man United have been dealt a further Lisandro Martinez injury blow, with the Argentine now set for another operation.
Manchester United just cannot catch an injury break at the moment. The Red Devils have been struck down by many game-changing problems that have seriously disrupted the start to the season.
The latest major loss was Lisandro Martinez. The Argentine suffered a recurrence of the foot injury that plagued him at the back end of last season. Initially, the plan was for Licha to rest up and come back in about two months.
There were whispers suggesting that Martinez may have to undergo another surgery on his foot as the metatarsal problem hadn’t healed properly. Well, those fears have now become a reality…
It’s the Daily Mail with the scoop. They say that the United star will have a second operation on the affected area, with Martinez now set to be out for up to three months. The surgery will take place today, in a bid to cure the problem with his fifth metatarsal once and for all.
When the injury was suffered back in April, Martinez was out for eleven weeks. He returned to pre-season early in a bid to get himself back fit, though it was clear he was never 100% right, as he’d have to be subbed off on a few occasions due to the problem still persisting.
Although it’s gutting to lose arguably our most important defender until 2024, this is absolutely the correct decision. It isn’t an injury you can manage. Sadly, the work needs to be done on his foot sooner rather than later. Hopefully, Licha will come back fighting fit in the new year as we’re certainly going to need him.
Get well soon, Lisandro!
