Lisandro Martinez underwent successful surgery on his foot, with the player now in recovery.
Manchester United Football Club were dealt a cruel blow over the weekend, with news confirming that Lisandro Martinez will be out of action for the next three months as he’d need another surgery on a foot issue that has been plaguing him since last season.
The Argentina centre-back suffered the problem against Sevilla in the Europa League, and although he’d start the season, the problem would persist. Now, it has been determined that another surgery is the best course of action.
Journalist Gaston Edul took to Twitter late last night to provide an update on that front. Thankfully, the surgery went well, with Martinez now in recovery mode. As expected, he will not play for the Argentina national team again this year.
For Licha, it’s now a race against time to get back fit as soon as possible, while ensuring that the problem is fully healed before he returns to the first-team fold. It’s a finely balanced situation.

It comes as no real surprise to learn that Licha will not play for his country again before the turn of the year. The question is, will he represent United? I don’t believe we’ll see him in 2023. My gut instinct is that United will want to approach this one super cautiously, giving Martinez all the time in the world to fully recover from this problem.
The last thing Ten Hag will want is the issue to resurface and then lose Martinez for the whole season. Yes, it’s going to be much tougher without him on the pitch, but with the long-term goals in mind, it’s the best play at this stage.
Thankfully, the surgy has gone as planned and now Licha is on the mend.
