Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano dished out the lowdown on why FC Barcelona and Spanish national team star spurned Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich years ago in his move from Croatia…despite the lure of bigger money and higher profile.
“When Dani was at Dinamo Zagreb, Bayern offered bigger money, marketing side was bigger too,” Andy Bara, Olmo’s agent revealed in exclusive comments for Romano and GiveMeSport. “But we gave our word to [RB Leipzig] and to Oliver Mintzlaff, they showed their project and we decided to go to Leipzig at that point.
“It’s about the sports project. Money is not everything in life and football.”
Olmo’s move certainly has paid off. He ended up spending a productive five seasons in Leipzig, becoming a thorn in the side of bother Bayern and Germany on occasion as he rose through the ranks in the Spanish men’s national team as well.
Now he is back in Spain with Barcelona…but given Barça’s famous and seemingly endless financial woes, how much longer will he stay? The 26-year-old wants to, but if it doesn’t work out with LaLiga, maybe Bayern can swoop back in after all.
