Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala and Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz are two of football’s most exciting attacking talents this year. And while they operate in similar areas on the pitch, they have shown in their time with Germany’s men’s national team that they might be able to complement each other and even fit into the same XI.
But even though transfer rumors continue to swirl, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany is staying away from questions about such a pairing — for now.
“The only one that can compare them is Julian Nagelsmann,” said Kompany in a pre-game press conference last month ahead of Bayern’s eventual 2-1 defeat to Mainz (as captured by via @iMiaSanMia). “Because he has them in the national team. For me, I can do an analysis for Musiala, but not for Wirtz.
“But he’s a great player of course. Jamal has shown what he can do and will get even better. The fact that both play for Germany is nice for Germany.”
