Will Lankshear has been one of the high-potential starlets coming out of the academy at Hotspur Way; however, he is tipped to move away from Tottenham Hotspur after being ignored for the FA Cup third-round fixture against Tamworth.
With rotation high on the agenda given how the fixtures are coming thick and fast, Lankshear was left to watch from the sidelines as the Lilywhites won 3-0 in an extra-time over the lower league opposition.
Lankshear backed for winter move
The fact that Lankshear was out of the starting lineup with Timo Werner down the middle raised eyebrows, and ex-Spurs scout Bryan King also expressed his surprise at the selection and the reasons behind the Australian head coach not picking up the 19-year-old forward ahead of Mikey Moore, who was returning from illness.
Speaking in an interview with Tottenham News, King said:
“Postecoglou named a very interesting team against Tamworth. It seems strange to me that Mikey Moore, who has been ill, came straight back into the team while Lankshear missed out again. I’m not sure what he has done wrong.
“This would have been a perfect game for him to play in. I don’t think he will be very happy. He’s been on the bench all the time and he never seems to get used. I think he will be asking to head out on loan because it doesn’t look as if he is going to get a game at Spurs this season.”
High potential but now development key
Lankshear is praised highly given the glimpses of his potential; however, he is yet to make a real impact, with chances only coming from the bench, and understandably he would be frustrated not to get an opportunity to show his potential against lower league opposition. Ultimately the North Londoners have to rely on the experience of Dominic Solanke to get through the 3rd round, even in what should be a straightforward fixture.
A potential loan move to a Championship side could help speed up Lanksehar’s development and give him first-team experience.
