It’s January 15, and we are on to Derby Day as Tottenham Hotspur readies up their ammos to make a short trip to the Emirates Stadium, where they face arch-rivals Arsenal in what is a clash everyone in world football would be tuning into from their couches, and reportedly the Lilywhites head coach, Ange Postecoglou, is ready to make some big switches in his starting appearance with Brennan Johnson set to face the axe.
The Welshman is expected to make way for Dejan Kulusevski as the former Celtic manager shuffles up his front line despite having started the former Nottingham winger in the last game.
King backs Brennan axe for derby day
Former Spurs scout Bryan King hinted that the visitors will be looking to name a more experienced attacking trio, which could lead to Brennan being axed from the starting lineup. And with his reputation as a key player in big matches, Kulu is likely to start again.
Then Postecoglou will likely opt for defensive solidity in the middle of the park with Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr in midfield. And Sergio Reguilón will be replaced in defence by Djed Spence in the left back role, while the rest of the backline from the Tamworth win should remain the same.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, King said:
“I would be slightly surprised if James Maddison doesn’t keep his place, because I think a lot of people see him as a big game player. Timo Werner and Mikey Moore won’t start, that is for sure. Dominic Solanke and Son Heung-min will replace them, and I think Dejan Kulusevski will complete the front three by replacing Johnson. In terms of the midfield, I don’t think Lucas Bergvall will start.
“I imagine we will see Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr playing behind Maddison. As for the back five, it will be the same as it was against Tamworth, except for Sergio Reguilón, who will be replaced by Djed Spence.”
It is a big game for both sides, and the starting lineup will be very important for the visitors, given how Arsenal will look to get a firm hold on the game from get go.
