According to a report from Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies would actually like to stay in Bavaria, but needs the salary numbers to be to his liking.
That seems to be the issue for Bayern Munich, which does not want to overpay for the left-back and is — allegedly — looking to cut salaries. This report does appear to be a far different cry than the stories that have been floated indicating that Davies wants to join Real Madrid or that he is contemplating moves with FC Barcelona and Manchester United.
Will Bayern Munich buck up? Let’s see what Falk’s report says:
Alphonso Davies would very much like to stay at FC Bayern, but ‘the numbers have to be right’. Manchester United’s interest in Davies is getting more concrete with the numbers they’re willing to offer being higher than Bayern’s and Real Madrid’s. Still no agreement reached with any club.
It is interesting that Davies could be willing to stay, but it feels like his exit is already cemented…it is just a matter of where he goes. Surely, Bayern Munich would love to have Davies back and continue on this journey that really started to kick off during Hansi Flick’s tenure.
Money…fame…a bigger platform….those are the things that will — likely — drive Davies’ decision. Bayern Munich can compete in those arenas, but is probably unable to take down clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester United, or even FC Barcelona if push came to shove on a total package.
Bayern Munich will do everything that it can do to keep the Canadian, but will it be enough?
Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show Season 4, Episode 19
Bayern Munich is back in action and fans are excited about watching the squad come back together on the pitch.
Off the field, though, things might even be more hot with some of the rumors going on. Let’s talk about some of the biggest stories on this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show:
- Joshua Kimmich is representing himself and might be bullying Bayern Munich’s more experienced front office.
- It still feels like Leroy Sané is going to re-up, but will the potential acquisition of Florian Wirtz be a stumbling block as Arsenal FC and Manchester United linger?
- Bayern Munich’s midfield is banged up, Leon Goretzka might start, and some people are not going to like it. Why has Goretzka become such a lightning rod for fans?
Song of the Week: “The Passenger” by Iggy Pop
This song was recorded way back in 1977, but did not get much acclaim until appearing on the soundtrack for Trainspotting (a lost 90s classic flick).
The song itself is a bit of wild story given when it was released, when it started to gain traction, and how often it has been used in movies, documentaries, television shows, and video games.
Anyway, enjoy:

Predictions
Bundesliga
If Bayern Munich truly wants to assert itself as the frontrunner to win the league, it cannot have any slip-ups against lesser teams.
Coming off an international break with a roster full of weary legs to play a Friday match sure seems like a trap game, but Bayern Munich looks like it is equipped to deal with such things this season.
At home (albeit on new grass!), this should be a win for the Bavarians.
